Do I need to be connected to wifi to see videos on my gopro Hero3+?

I recently received the Hero 3+ gopro camera for my birthday. However, we were quick to notice that it lacks thee screen. We know you can buy the screen as an add on ($100), but I was looking for other options. We would like to be able to view the footage right after we shoot it. If I have the gopro app on my mobile phone, do I need to connect with wifi in order to see my photos? Or should I be able to see just connected by bluetooth? I don't always have access to wifi, so it would be inconvenient. Thanks!
