Is it possible to convert a QuickTime video to a Higher Quality HD video?

I made a video with iMovie '09, and the only option of exporting was low quality QuickTime, and the video turned out horribly. Is there any way I can convert it to be higher quality so as to be able to see the gopro footage well?
