Cannon rebel 5ti vs GoPro Hero 3?

Im going to playa del carmen, a very expensive bay ation my family and i are going too. And i want to take photos, but instead of cellphone photos i want to take cool ones with amazing cameras. Not sure if i should go with the Go Pro hero 3 or the canon rebel t5i? Any suggestions? My sisters bf is bring his GoPro… And im sure hell be filming everyone but mostly just him and my sister lol, so i want to buy a camera for my family and stuff… I know the gopro can get wet unlike th canon… So thats always an up but idk
