Shooting video with Canon 600D, microphone and wind noise issues? Filming cars?

I'd like to film my car which is a Caterham R300, I was thinking of mounting my camera to the roll cage but the wind noise will be awful. I attempted some video just to test video and noise quality and the day wasn't that windy and all it picked up was wind.

So i'd be looking to get an external microphone but as the camera will be on the roll cage, would it be possible to get a long lead and mount the microphone in a different place (closer to the exhaust), while retaining the camera on the roll bar?

My next question would be as the exhaust stick out of the side how could wind noise be prevented as it would be exposed?

I'm not currently looking to get a GoPro yet but use what I have right now, I've only had this camera for about 6 months to work on my photography as a hobby, but just wanted to give some video a go on road and tracks (where allowed).

Any advice is great, cheers.
