What is wrong with my GoPro?

I am having problems with my new GoPro Hero 5 Black when saving pictures, videos, etc… Everytime I take a photo or video, the GoPro brings me to a black screen with a red dot and doesn't save or load my picture. I have to shut down my GoPro and turn it back on again to get back to the main screen. This glitch doesn't let me take photos or videos on my GoPro and I don't know what is wrong. My friend got the same GoPro and his doesn't have the problem mine does. I am not sure what is happening, but whenever I touch the screen when it's locked down, the GoPro is unresponsive and nothing happens. It is frustrating as it is brand new and the GoPro is in excellent shape. Any help is appreciated.
