Should I buy a GoPro or a Mirrorless Camera or a less expensive action camera?

I have long wanted to buy a nice camera for documenting my travels, special life events (ex. Parties, reunions, etc.) and sometimes just plain daily events like selfies, food, a random moment and such.

Before, I wanted to buy a DSLR camera because the image quality is great but I'm no photographer. More of a point-and-shoot type but willing to learn though if there's a willing teacher out there.

I then find a GoPro very tempting because it's lightweight, convenient to bring anywhere and I can take underwater selfies. The price is indeed expensive and also its accessories. I don't know if it would be worth buying such an expensive camera when I don't breathe extreme sports & travels on a regular basis.

Then there's this trend on mirrorless cameras. It works like a DSLR but lighter. So perfect for those blogger-esque posts, random photos. Downside - can't take underwater photos without having to buy the super expensive case (if there's any)

Or should I opt to buy cheaper action cameras like the Supremo1 or Xaomi Yi?

I need your thoughts/reviews/opinions on this as I want my money's worth and use the gadget to its fullest potential.
