Does a external hard drive make video editing faster?

I took apart an old computer and got the hard drive. I do a lot of GoPro editing on my computer. I have a 4gb quad core cpu. Is it worth it to get an enclosure for my hard drive? It is a 7200rpm Sata. How much faster would it make video editing? I only edit smaller videos, under an hour an length. Thanks!
