Gopro Hero 3+ Shutting off in cold temps?

Im in vermont on a ski trip and im skiing the trees an i wanna get some nice footage. But the problem is when i turn my gopro on and hit record it only records for a second and turns off. The wind chill is easily below zero (F). My phone freezes and shuts off in the cold so perhaps the same is with my gopro but i thought that the batteries where meant for cold weather.
