Is it better to buy or borrow expensive equipment?

I'm debating whether or not I should borrow a GoPro or just buy one.
+If I borrow, then I pay $0 but risk losing it and paying $400.
+ If I buy, then I pay $300 but I'm not sure whether or not I'll use it again later.
