Gopro hero 3 plus not able to work with mic?

so, I have a gopro hero 3 black edition, in good condition, that refuses to cooperate with my microphone. The mic i have is a shotgun mic that had its own power supply, and works flawlessly with my dslr and my recording systems. For the gopro, i initially bought the crappy adapter for mics that costed $2.98, which didnt work, and then spent $23 on the gopro brand adapter- which also did not work.

Ultimately, i would like to plug in lav mics and my shotgun mic to my gopro, and it has to obviously work for me to be able to do that. If it help, when plugging the mic in there is a small amount of audio response in the recordings, but just static and electrical noises, no actual noises related to the enviornment. I know that it is not a problem with the mic, so it must have to do with the gopro. Thanks.
