Should there be a cover for the bottom of my gopro smart remote?

I ve seen videos of people using the smart remote underwater and I would like to use mine while I am snorkeling but I was wondering because mine didn t come with any sort of plastic cover for the bottom of it. Is it okay to leave it opened like that in the water? Should I put the metal clip in or something? Thanks!
