I dont want to format my SD card?

I bought a gopro a while ago, but it needed a micro sd card. I went to target and bought both a micro sd card and a micro sd to sd card adapter. With this i went to california and took a bunch of pictures, and i put the sd card adapter in my computer. All the pictures showed up no problem. But now, i went on a skateboarding trip and i recorded some footage but when i put the card in my computer it says "You must format your sd card before use" I know that formatting your sd card erases all the data so what should i do? And also does this mean i should buy a new sd card adapter or micro sd card?
