How to show the date and time on th display on the gopro hero 1 please?

in the settings you can set the date and time but i cannot see to display it on the screen when the video is recording. If not what is the point of setting the date and time? When i take the sd card out and playback the video it should have the date and time in case of a incident. Thank you
