GoPro or waterproof point and shoot?

I am heading to Belize and want to be able to take good pictures on the beach, snorkeling, etc. Primarily I want to get good pictures, but it would be cool to have some video too. Prices are similar, but I ve heard that they GoPro actually takes great stills. Which one should I go with?
