I'm a young cinematographer (and full time film student) who works on a lot of short films, for which we normally rent cameras but I'm looking to upgrade my Canon 1100d body which i've had for four years because I've really (really, really) long outgrown it, and I definitely need 1080p for my personal work these days.
All my lenses are Canon, so I'm looking to stay in the family, and I'm looking to spend around/preferably under £1000. Whilst I've never used it I've heard the full frame on the 5d is weird for film and after a lot of research and chatting I'm looking at the 7d, I was wondering if anyone who had used these, or any other could give me some advice?
I'm looking to spend that little bit extra rather than buying say, the 60d because I think it'll allow for that bit more future proof ness, but if anyone wants to make an argument for getting a cheaper camera body and using the difference on getting a lens or maybe a GoPro to really experiment (I'm totally enamoured with the idea of such safe and easy car rigs) then I'll bow to that, I'm really interested in your thoughts.
A bit about me incase it helps: I always set everything manually - the more control the better - never autofocus - so any features that might sway someone towards that don't really apply. I do a spot of photography here and there but mainly just to inform my filmmaking. I work a lot in low light and on outdoor locations. I'm just about to turn twenty. Thanks!
