GoPro downloading over wifi slows down?

I've got a very weird problem with my GoPro 3+ Black edition. When I download files over WiFi to my laptop through the web interface at 10.5.5.9:8080, it works fine at about 1.4 MB/s for a few minutes then will randomly slow down to a very specific speed. Usually it goes to about 420 KB/s but sometimes it goes to about 92 KB/s. These have been repeated with different computers, so I know it's not the computer that is the problem, it must be the camera. If I pause the download for about 10 seconds then resume, it works perfectly and goes back to 1.4 MB/s for a while before dropping back to one of the speeds mentioned. Has anybody else experienced this problem or know how to fix it?
